Today I'm sharing a tour of our home - really a tour of the areas of our home that I've updated this past year. To start the tour, we'll begin at the front porch. We recently painted the front door and shutters. The front door had been burgundy and the shutters were hunter green. I am liking the new, updated colors! The swing is being moved to my back porch soon because the perennials are thriving this year and I'd rather move the swing than try to move flowers!
Here's another look at the front entrance. The little wagon is from my childhood and I found the galvanized tub at Home Goods. I planted two Endless Summer hydrangeas in the tub and they are thriving!
The cupboard door turned chalkboard hangs by the front door to "Welcome Summer"! Remember when it read "Welcome Spring" here - that seems like it was yesterday!
Here's our living room all ready for summer.
A lot of my decor is DIY, like this oversized clock that I made from an old table top that I got for free! You can read about this Ballard Designs knock off here.
The side chair was purchased at a thrift store and I made the slip cover from drop cloth. You can see the before and afters in this post from last year.
Here's another view of the living room. I would eventually like to replace the wrought iron chandelier, but haven't found just what I'm looking for yet. The ottoman is really a cedar chest that I slip covered. You can see that post here.
On either side of the fireplace are fern prints that I made from woodland ferns from my garden.
Here's a shot of the sofa and the barn door sign that hangs above it. My green sofa is not a favorite of mine, but until I can find a sofa to make over for cheap, it's gotta stay. When I do find a replacement, the green sofa will be moved to the family room.
Here's a close up of some of the nautical elements on the wicker tray that sits on the ottoman.
One of the first rooms I updated was our bathroom.
I made the shower curtain. Actually, the gray and tan leaf and berry fabric was the inspiration for the room's color palette.
The hand towel hangs from an old porcelain door knob and lock set.
Here's my dining room.
My table and chairs were a yard sale bargain at $40. Of course, they didn't look like this when I found them! I painted the table white with homemade chalk paint and the chairs were painted black. I used drop cloth once again to reupholster the seats. The bench is from my great aunt and uncle's farmhouse! I have wonderful memories sitting at that bench as a child.
I love the detail on the trestle table!
This was my grandmother's corner cupboard. I recently painted it, but decided to leave the shelves with the natural wood for contrast.
The antique bucket bench is set up to serve lemonade this summer! It was used as a hot cocoa station over Christmas.
Last fall I won a blog contest and the prize was a free stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils. I chose this damask stencil and did a tone on tone design on one wall in the dining room! Everyone immediately thinks it is wallpaper!
What's not to love about a daisy and fresh lemon centerpiece.
Here are a few other shots from the dining room area.
The latest work in progress in our home is the screen porch. Along with our shutters, it was hunter green until last week. Now the porch is a bright white. It's home to my new vintage metal glider and chairs.
Here's the old door that I sometimes use as photo prop. It sits on a back wall on the porch. I found this little table at a yard sale and with a fresh coat of paint, it looks great in front of the door.
The pattern for this vintage set is called "Pie Crust". I didn't plan this, but the pattern on the quilt mimics the pattern on the glider!

Just outside the porch is my potting bench that is made from another old door.
And to close, just a few shots in the back yard. Hubby actually fell asleep on the hammock last week - it was a much needed break from painting!
This was my sister's Schwinn from the early 1960's. The bicycle basket is a fun, decorative planter for summer in the back yard!
The peonies by the garden shed are beautiful this year!
I just repainted the shutters on our shed the same color as the front door.
Thanks for stopping by to take the tour! As more areas get updated in our home, I will add them to the tour!
